Dragonscale Tower: Better Parenting Through Continuous Home Improvement
IMPORTANT NOTE: while this WILL run in browser, there's a few loading stutters that I haven't been able to resolve in the gamejam timeframe. There's a windows desktop version available for the speed demons out there.
Congratulations wizard! You've just bought your first dragon egg.
Dragons need a lot of room to grow; so, to keep your new daughter safe and happy, you need to keep growing your tower. Scale up your wizardly economy with... dozens?... of wizardly rooms. Roll occult dice to trigger events. And keep your dragon daughter happy!
Test your parenting/home-improvement skills/magical aptitude in this game inspired by SimTower, Machi Koro and virtual pets.
Instructions
The main goal is to keep your economy growing enough to manage to afford the next biggest room for your dragon before she outgrows it; placing the final room, Lair, (which is expensive) will end the game.
Placeable rooms are randomly generated in stacks at the bottom of the screen; place them anywhere connected to your tower to reveal the next one.
Roll dice on the bottom left to pass time; die rolls trigger rooms to give/trade resources for you.
As time passes, the meter on the bottom right fills up. If this gets to max and you have not built a big enough room for your dragon, you will lose; otherwise, you go to the next level.
After some number of dice rolls, you will receive new mysterious dice.
You can adjust difficulty, sound, music, keyboard controls (on/off) and WIZARD MODE from the settings menu.
Why?
Made for Kenney Jam 2026. The theme is SCALE and I've elected to try for 2 of the bonus challenges:
Mouse only: Your game should be fully controlled using only the mouse
Cross Dimensional: Use 2D sprites in a 3D world
Note there IS optional keyboard mode in the settings, so whatever. Mouse is all you need though!
Dang, this was a rather complicated thing to build over a 48 hour period. You can see the geological strata of horrible code getting worse and worse as the project goes on... but my Godot skills saw me through! Learn some for yourself on YouTube at youtube.com/@hoveringskull . I might do a making of for this after I get a few days of sleep.
My wife played it and said it was charming and that she was proud of me, which makes it worth while.
What's next?
I'd like to come back to this later to improve/release. Some ideas:
- placeable workers
- more cool dice
- more levels and rooms
- rooms with active abilities
- destroyable rooms
Do you have ideas? Would love to hear them.

This is really deep and well develop for a 50hrs jam it is so great! The music and visuals helps a lot with the experience and the gameplay is so fun. Just like other people comment is hard to get use to all the mechanics and it is confusing at the start but once you understand how it works its really fun. Maybe for future versions I would introduce some mechanics or requirements later on the gameplay and start slow and easy so people can catch up.
I've got SOOOO much i'd love to add, and WILL after the jam dust settles. Thanks for the play!
A journey. (Up, several floors.)
A mystery. (What role does my dragon play, after running away to join a punk band? If she's the vocalist, that's fire.)
Genuinely impressed on all angles of this, but that visual style continues to blow me away.
Nah, she's a bassist, nobody is proud of the bassist.
(I can say that because I used to be a bassist).
This is great, it tickles my Balatro brain! Needs shop re-roll
Thanks for playing Togg! Stream was a delight
This game was great!
I really enjoyed this game, the music and visuals are really good.
I found the tutorial a little confusing, but I eventually figured it out.
Also, I didn't really understand the point of there being multiple dice since you can only roll one at a time.
If you were to add to this game, I think adjacency rules like (building A does X when next to building B) and being able to modify your dice rolls somehow could give this game some more strategic depth.
I can hardly believe this was made in 2 days, well done!
Yeah! I've got a big list of polish + gameplay improvements, and t hose two are defffffinitely on there. Thanks so much. Cheers!
Very in depth! I love the soundtrack, and the world design. The mechanics take a bit of getting used to, even with the tutorial. For instance understanding the two dice and their differences. Very nice!
Thanks for playing Steve! I wanted to leave a little mystery... buy yeah. Hard to decide what to explain and not.
